THE GOLDEN TEMPLE: A glittering gold and marble temple, is one of the holiest Sikh shrines. Skilled artisans have intricately worked the interiors of the temple with fine inlay work using semi-precious stones. During Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s reign, artisans adorned the lower half of the temple with marble, and they inlaid the entire upper half with copper, which was then covered by a gold plate. Hence its new name Golden Temple. Free kitchen and recitation of the divine word never cease here. Its four gates invite everyone from all directions.

AKAL TAKHAT: In 1609, the Sixth Guru, Sri Har Gobind, constructed a seat of temporal authority symbolizing the unity of spiritual and temporal life.
